About Otacon

Software house

Background

I first spoke with Mattia from Otacon, a software house specializing in integrated AI solutions, in August. Although he was looking for a full-time developer for another project, my subscription model caught his attention.

At the end of September, the right opportunity finally arrived: an existing international trademark registration project needed to be completed.

After a couple of alignment calls, we organized the first tasks and started immediately. There was no time to waste.

The project

The project was a complex trademark registration management system made up of three connected applications:

  • WordPress landing page where users registered and requested a trademark application
  • Customer app where users tracked requests and managed documents
  • Super-admin app where the Otacon team reviewed requests, approved renewals, and managed payments

The goal was to create a complete, automated flow. Customers could submit applications through the website while Otacon managed the entire administrative process through its internal interface.

The challenges

Joining an existing project means working with code and processes that are not always ideal. The main challenges were:

  • Integrating three platforms: the API contracts between the super-admin app, customer app, and WordPress site required constant alignment.
  • Legacy code: much of the application had been generated with AI by a previous supplier, slowing development.
  • Continuous coordination: the demanding deadline required close communication with Otacon’s project manager.

The results

Onboarding was almost immediate. Within hours of payment, GitHub, Slack, and ClickUp access was ready, and the first tasks were completed that same day.

In just 20 working days, I completed 40 tasks at a consistent pace, allowing the team to meet its deadline and deliver a finished product to the end client.

The impact of the subscription model

The Otacon project shows why a goal-based rather than hour-based approach works well for companies that:

  • do not need a full-time employee,
  • want flexibility in their workload,
  • urgently need fast, concrete results,
  • value clear and predictable monthly costs.

When time is the most valuable resource, this model provides strong value without the rigidity of a traditional contract.
