Background
Beatrice contacted me on LinkedIn because she needed a developer to integrate market-validation forms for TinPet, a startup designed to connect dog owners for social activities.
She initially used Fillout for the forms and Airtable for the database, but soon encountered the limitations of that setup, especially when connecting two separate forms.
After an introductory call, during which we also considered building the solution independently with Lovable, Beatrice chose to work with me on a proprietary application that would provide full control over the data and greater future flexibility.
The project
The project involved building an integrated form system for TinPet’s market validation, replacing limited no-code tools with a custom application.
Because the priority at this stage was to validate the market as quickly as possible, I chose a streamlined solution.
Technology stack
- Next.js for a fast, SEO-friendly frontend
- Supabase for a scalable backend and database
- Zod and React Hook Form for robust data validation
- Shadcn/ui for consistent interface components
Key features
- Integrated forms connecting owner and pet submissions
- Complete validation for every submitted field
- Data ownership with full control of collected information
- Scalable foundations ready for future development
The challenges
The project involved several technical and scheduling constraints:
- Form validation: every database submission had to be validated accurately, leaving no room for user input errors.
- Connecting owner and pet forms: the owner form needed to become available only after submission of the associated pet form.
- Speed without sacrificing quality: the entire project had to be completed in one week, requiring careful decisions about what to optimize and what to simplify.
The results
In one week, I delivered a complete, working system. You can view the application here.
- Complete form validation: Zod and React Hook Form ensure clean, consistent database submissions.
- Clear handoff: documentation and explanatory videos allow Beatrice to understand and update the application independently.
- A solid foundation: the architecture makes future expansion straightforward without starting again from scratch.
The impact of the subscription model
Hiring a developer or paying a daily rate would not have made sense for TinPet at this stage. The subscription model is particularly effective for early-stage startups that:
- are validating an idea,
- need to move quickly to test assumptions,
- must build an MVP on a limited budget,
- want a partner who understands startup dynamics.
